Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Andy C — 27 Feb 2011
A Best Picture Winner from 1953, this WWII movie is a story leading up to the events of Pearl Harbor. It is more about the life of a soldier on down time than a soldier at war, though they do get into war with themselves and within the company. It is really two seperate love stories that rarely cross paths. I favored more the Montgomery Clift and Donna Reed storyline. but it is Frank Sinatra that steals the show. Here is another rare case where five of the leads were all nominated with Donna Reed and Frank Sintra winning. You can obviously see where Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor got its inspiration but failed. This is the only Pearl Harbor story that really matters.
Grade: A-.
