Review of From Beijing with Love (1994) by Steve W — 21 Jan 2013
Released a year before the REAL James Bond returned to our screens, this Chinese flick is a unauthorized 007 movie. (There are a lot of those... this just happens to be the only one listed on Flixster, so I'm reviewing it!) Basically, 007 is retired and working as a butcher, but is called out of retirement to battle "The Man with the Golden Gun", who is a guy in a robotic outfit and has nothing to do with the enemy of that nickname from the movie of that name.
(Say that three times fast.) What results is supposed to be a comedy, and it does have some funny parts ("MAGIC BOX!") but it just ends up being a graphically violent mess with horrible subtitles.
If you want to branch off from the normal Bonds and hunt down the more obscure ones, there are better ones than this... try the Japanese "Our Man From Bond Street" first. (That one is also a comedy, and MUCH funnier.
).
