Review of From Beijing with Love (1994) by Tsubaki S — 21 Dec 2011
Ah yes, the good ol Hong Kong "throw everyting into the mix" approach of filmaking that we don't see that often these days. One second there is a joke about spy gadgets, then there's a little kid seeing his dad dying infront of him.
This is clearly a cultural shock for many in the west, for the HK aficionado this was the bread and butter back in those days. Now, "From Beijing" still shows a Stephen Chow polishing his craft, still trying to get the right flow, so this one is not as strong as his following work.
Still fun to watch, even with all the verbal comedy lost in translation.
