Review of Fright Night (2011) by Cody M — 10 Apr 2012
Entertaining if slight remake of the 80s horror comedy switches the low-key suburban setting for Las Vegas as a teenager (Anton Yelchin) discovers that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a evil vampire.
Seeking aid from stage magician and self-professed vampire expert Peter Vincent (David Tennant), our hero sets out to destroy the bloodsucking menace. Remake is well made but adds nothing new to the formula, favoring action set pieces over the mannered suspense of the original.
Farrell is obviously having a ball sinking his teeth into his role and exudes a sexy menance, and while no Roddy McDowall, the foul-mouthed Tennant is amusingly camp despite his character being awkwardly shoehorned into the plot.
Good.
