Review of Fright Night (1985) by Stefán Birgir S — 28 Jun 2010
'Fright Night' is a 1985 Horror, Comedy & Thiller (also I think It has some drak toned vampier romance) film that became a suprise hit at the box office & 25 years later a Reamke is in the work for 2011 October/Halloween release with a all star cast, as the original movie intiqued me after seeing the trailer & reading about it on horror or other website & got really excited to see it, soo I got it on DVD & it did not disappoint me one bit, as I argee with alot of people who like/love this movie as a classic Horror/Comedy movie for the mid 80's (that really is a horror or comedy fan watch kind of film, also the movie has been branded as either a cult film or a classic movie, well I think it's a mid 80's Horror/Comedy Cult Classic & I loved it).
The genre Horror, Thriller & Comedy were especially blend altogether in the rightway for this type of movie, the style, theme, element & texture were ace & were creative brilliantly towards the movie and the muisc/sound was really great 80's styled & great chilling tunes for a horror film, The storyline/plot was something new & fresh for a mid 80's horror & comedy movie with a twist in the vampier style in the suburbs, the acting was absolutley amazing from actors I've never heard (except for Roddy McDowall), I would say thats this is their best performances they probabley ever done, the visuals effects were spectacular & really out of this world for an 80's movie, but I must say you could tell that some effects made the film dated but were still cool & the make-up artist was really genius because I couldn't belive how they look soo really & with some of them help by visuals effects it was a cleverly, smashing way of new make-up artist effects, the film was abit out dated but that what makes this film so unique, while the movie showing of other creepy horror film in the film it show the movie to be a more different & creapier vampier movie with a cool vampier set style in an 80's cult classic, it has great technique in the fog & shadow displacement in the movie, it really has some funny moments in the movie, while I thought it was a great creepy, eerie, thrilling, chilling & what you would like if you a horror or vampier movie fan and the way it was taken & caputre in this film was soo teiffic am soo glad I brought it on DVD.
The drections were brillantly captured for it's time & the written script was really clever with a blend of Horror/Thriller with the take of comedy with it's drak humorous (by Tom Holland the director & writer of this movie, which this was his directorial debut, which I found to be an excellent debut, very talented director & writter) and the ending was a great & perfect ending for this type of movie as it was soo beautifuly scary & somewhat funny, it did not disappoint me, as I would have to say this is one of my favourtie 1985/80's Cult Classic Horror, thriller & Comedy Vampier movie ever (also the tagline on the DVD also for the movie in 1985; "If you love being scared, it'll be the night of your life" as I would have to say I love getting scared & it was the night of my life (hopefully the remake will do justice from the original) & it gave me frighting nigthmares too).
