Review of Fright Night (1985) by Ryan S — 11 Jun 2016
A prime example of the 80's comedy/horror sub-gere that I just made up. This movie seems to try and play it straight, but you can see the cast and crews tongues firmly pressed against their cheeks.
It's fun and silly because of it's camp, but still has the great effects and other creepy stuff that make it classic horror. Even if not as popular or "serious" as the slasher films that the 80's brought us, Fright Night is a premier 80's horror classic.
It exudes an almost whimsical spell on me when I watch it. I'm laughing on minute and quietly saying "cool" (spoken like a middle schooler) to myself when I see the great old school effects and techniques that I love so much.
And of course, Chris Sarandon is the ultimate vampire.....he rocks the knit sweater like only a dapper creature of the night can. One of my favorite movies of all time. I can't recommend it movie enough.
......."it's so cool, Brewster!!!".
