Review of Frenzy (2015) by Darryl J — 08 Feb 2008
I only just saw this mid-week on late night ABC tv. Ha, as much as Hitchcock built and established himself as a fine director, I can't help but think how inward he must have become as a person. His later films, like this one is very self absorbed and seemed very self reflective.
Just listen to the dialogue, or was it the english accent that makes every word come out of the characters mouths sound pompous and all mighty(I think it was the script). Although a good set-up where an innocent man is mistakenly accused of murdering his wife, Frenzy didn't even get me close to being tense due to the cliched plot and the problem with the dialogue I mentioned earlier.
Frenzy has influenced many modern thriller's, just like most of this mans films have, but I still can't bring myself like this one. The Italians where making films just like this back in the 60's/70's, but only better.
Go watch some old Argento or Fulci films if you want a thrill ride which will keep you on edge till the last frame, well every damn frame, but just beware! Fulci and Argento create some dark art.
