Just as bad as you've read. If you want to see a good disaster movie just go rent 2012. You'll see similar scenes but done a lot better. Even the 'tension' between the brothers is so phony and laughable that it might as well be part comedy.
There is no emotional investment in any of the characters so you could care less whether they live or die. Maybe if they all died this might have been a better movie.
