Review of Freedom Writers (2007) by Rebecca M — 16 Apr 2014
I always seem to be drawn to dramas set in schools, which is quite strange as I was not a big fan of the place. This is a really engaging story about a young teacher who has her work cut out as she strives to win over her class of disaffected students who are more interested in gangster life than academia.
Hilary Swank is really great as her character slowly manages to get her pupils onside by finding ways to connect with them and put herself on their wavelength.
