Freedom Writers is a drama film. This movie was directed by Richard LaGravenese in 2007. It is a very well-known film based on a true story : "The Freedom Writers Diary" was written by Erin Gruwell and his students. This movie was rewarded by the Humanitas Prize.
Hilary Swank playing Erin Gruwell has the leading role. Erin's father was played by Scott Glenn. And the husband of Erin, Scott Casey, was played by the famous Patrick Dempsey.
This movie takes place in Long Beach,Los Angeles California, during the year 2007.
Freedom Writers talks about the story of gang's conflict, and discrimination in 1990's years. While Erin Gruwell discover a new school, she wants to teach her difficult students to read and write. Students of Long Beach School are daily facing the violence of the street.
Freedom Writers is a sad but very real movie. I think the movie had a good philosophy : despite our differences we can work together in order to build a world of love.
Generally, I find this film absolutely great ! I recommend this film to anyone.
