Review of Freedom Writers (2007) by Steph O — 29 Jul 2010
The massive list of teachers that change their students lives grows with freedom writers, this is a cliché formulae that we have seen time and time again but there are some things freedom writers does that you just don?t see in other movies of this type.
The rebellious students are nothing new but the depth at which freedom writers goes into their back stories and the subtlety it uses to illustrate racial prejudice. The teacher, played by Hilary Swank, is a bit too cheesy at times and defies logic at others.
I?m surprised this movie won 2 Oscars when films that have done the same thing better seem to go unrecognized.
