Review of Freddy vs. Jason (2003) by Kyler D — 17 Sep 2012
Good: Amazing action scenes, two iconic horror villains duke it out, great deaths, nice to see a change in these franchises that is good, humor, plot is better than expected.
Bad: The biggest appeals are really only the action sequences and the deaths, it doesn't rise far above those two aspects.
Ah, the big battle us fans have always been waiting for, Freddy vs. Jason. Finally we are allowed to see two of horror's biggest icons duke it out. To see the victor is one of the biggest factors that will keep you involved in the film. The action scenes are great and well choreographed. The deaths of the people involved are also great, and I am glad they included these people rather than just Jason and Freddy. Both of these series were facing a lowering of popularity and quality before this film came, but for me it gave both characters a final hurrah (before the sequels that is). Their popularity boosted, and it added something new to the series that was actually good for a change. It is nice to see them battle against someone that is equal of their skills. The movie is enjoyable, especially for fans of the series. While it would be better to watch at least both original films in which these characters are in, I could see many people enjoying this without formerly seeing either character. The plot is actually better than expected, most of the time slasher films put the plot as one of the less important things. The movie even manages to include a good amount of humor, mostly from our black humored friend Freddy. A good movie to the average movie watcher, but a great movie for fans of the series.
