Review of Freddy vs. Jason (2003) by Foreverfinalgir — 20 Dec 2021
Who doesn’t like the thought of some of their favorite bad guys fighting each other? Michael Meyers, Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Chucky, and the list can go on and on. Then add on the teaser that we might get a Freddy vs Jason at the end of Jason Goes to Hell (1993). And you get an audience foaming at the mouth. It took a decade, but we finally get it with Freddy vs Jason.
PLOT.
He may get the blood, but I’ll get the glory, and that fear is my ticket home.-Freddy Krueger.
Everyone has forgotten about Freddy so he is powerless. But now he found a way to resurrect Crystal Lakes serial killer Jason Voorhees. Jason will kill so that people will remember Freddy and he can return with all his powers. But things don’t go as planned when Jason doesn’t want to stop killing. The teens have repressed their memories (thanks to the adults in town) of Freddy, and they are not prepared for him or his new tool of terror, Jason Voorhees.
MY THOUGHTS.
Welcome to my nightmare.-Freddy Krueger.
I found the plot a pretty interesting idea. If you make the youth forget about Freddy, then it should make Freddy powerless. So, find someone else to stir things up so Freddy can insinuate himself back into this reality. Who better than Jason Voorhees? I know there are some issues with some of the plot ideas like why is Jason now scared of water? I can see why he would be but in some of the movies he has killed teens from the water so he’s not really scared of it. Also, there are some cringy scenes (like the whole pinballing of Jason at one point). And some might find the Freddy caterpillar cringeworthy. Though I actually liked the drug induced scene. Also, the ending is kind of vague of who won.
As far as the kills, Freddy has the least kills of any of his movies. He basically has one kill and Jason has the majority of them. One of my favorites is douchebag Trey’s death. Ouch! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I also felt a little bad for poor Charlie. Trying to comfort Kia and get her to find help. He dies alone. I thought Deputy Stubbs’ death was lame and his character deserved better.
Here is some gee whiz information I found out about the movie:
The special effects team used about 300 gallons of fake blood for the movie.
Freddy vs Jason takes place two months after Jason Goes to Hell and 5 years before Jason X. (Friday the 13th Wiki).
Freddy vs Jason takes place 4 years after Freddy’s Dead. (A Nightmare on Elm Street Wiki).
The group goes to Westin Hills to get the Hypnocil. Hypnocil was the drug Nancy was taking in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and gave the remaining Elm street kids. Also note that the hospital Nancy worked at was Westin Hills as well.
Overall I enjoyed this movie. It was fun with two of my favorite bad guys. Was it really scary? No, but it was entertaining and definitely not the worst in either franchises. The sad thing is there are no more A Nightmare on Elm Street movies (besides the remake. Sigh. That will be the next movie I will be watching).
