Review of Freddy vs. Jason (2003) by Darian H — 13 Aug 2011
Not a very good movie, objectively speaking, but then, it isn't supposed to be. Combining all the best aspects of both franchises, it manages to create something that is, perhaps, the purest essence of both.
Jason is as big and bad as ever, and racks up one of his most impressive body-counts to date, while good ol' Krueger spends most of his time sitting on the sidelines, a creepy and (in his own mind, if nobody else's) "witty" puppetmaster.
The climactic showdown between the two, and the ending, are both quite satisfying, but slasher fans will (as usual) find themselves cheering for the charismatic mass murdering undead psychopaths after about 3 minutes alone with the irritating, sex-obsessed, drunk-and-drugged party-going teenaged main character.
This is as it should be.
