Review of Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) by Bryan M — 23 Oct 2009
The first half of this film is atmospheric and enjoyable, focussing on the resurrected Wolf Man and his attempts to find a cure for his condition. It feels much more like a sequel to the excellent first Wolf Man film than a monster vs monster cash-in.
Unfortunately the film loses its footing once Frankenstein's monster appears. Bela Lugosi plays the monster awkwardly, and without the sympathy that Boris Karloff brought to the role. Lon Chaney Jr is once again excellent as the hapless Larry Talbot.
The inevitable final battle between the two monsters is effectively if predictably handled.
