Review of Frank (2014) by Ian G — 16 Aug 2014
An interesting if vaguely odd and incomplete film touching on Domhnall Gleeson's characters time with a bunch of wacky "artists" of varying sanity led by the eccentric Frank who covers his eccentricities behind a paper mache mask.
Hits on the joys of making music strictly for artistic fufilment which is great along with some of the traumas the artists go through and provides some darkly comic moments, but at the same time the quirkiness of the tone can be the films undoing since it borders at times at being too quirky for its own good,.
As always even with Fassbender wearing the mask he is the most compelling performance of the piece and Maggie Gyllenhall is fun as always as the damaged moll of the group.
