Review of Frances Ha (2013) by Sigridh M — 17 May 2013
Great gerwig nails it in this (appropriately shot in bw) reflection of modern day striving, failing, clinging/releasing, and growing in the big apple. a coming of age movie for those of us who are constantly coming of age.
if this doesn't resonate, this film is probably not or you. dean & britta supply tunes and appear in a dinner party scene where frances delivers a pitch perfect soliloquy on life and love to a bougie group who have traded 'silly ideals' for pragmatic ladder climbing.
she does so without a hint of irony or mean spiritedness - as does ditector noah baumbach to whom I tip my cap to for his coffee house style observations on the secular zeitgeist. sweet and melancholy .
. just like life.
