Review of Foxy Brown (1974) by Heather D — 06 Dec 2007
While doing research for a paper, I read a quote from a movie goer about this film: "Those titties are real?" Yes they are, and man oh man, are they splendid. The fact that I'm mentioning titties also reveals that this film objectifies women, both white and black.
One scene has topless white women sitting around with "clients" while watching porn. What I found interesting were the fights. To me, they felt real. Moves and blows were delivered in a way that I think any other person would have done them, unlike Cleopatra Jones, which was like blaxploitation meets James Bond.
Yes, some scenes were ridiculous, like the random vigilante justice in the ghetto and the lesbian bar fight, but hey, that's what makes blaxploitation, as well as this film, enjoyable. And also, Pam Grier.
Oh man, I think I'm falling in love with Pam Grier from the 70s.
