Review of Four Rooms (1995) by Michael Y — 23 Aug 2011
First off, Tim Roth is fantastic, and this movie shows how versatile (physically and artistically) of an actor he can be. You can't take anything in the movie seriously, or you are missing the point.
That being said...1st room: reminds me of a really hilarious overdone ethnic joke. You shouldn't be laughing, but you find yourself doing it anyway. And yes, it is a long drawn out sperm joke, but still...it left Tim Roth happier (and richer) in the end... so no harm, no foul. Probably my favorite one.
2nd room: Things just keeps getting stranger and stranger. Also, endless penis jokes, but hilarious and one of the better ones.
3rd room: Again, intentionally overdone, but I think giving Banderas the final punchline beat the audience over the head too much.
4th room: Even though I like Quentin Tarantino as a director, I liked this room least of all. He talks for 30 minutes about Cristal and a guy's pinkie gets cut off. Meh.
