Review of Force Majeure (2014) by Dan M — 12 Jan 2015
Force Majeure is that movie that you can't take your eyes off, and still can't stand the feeling it brings to you all through. It's a family drama that is as gut wrenching to watch as war thrillers.
Top notch performances (especially by Lisa Love Kongsli) transcend the movie's emotional magnitude and intensity to a whole other level. The cinematography places you instantly in the atmosphere of the cold, beautiful landscape where the events take place, which also gets the audience more invested with what's going on at every second in the movie, whether it's an emotional breakdown, or a happy moment, you're always getting a sense of the surroundings and a feeling the tone of the place.
Finally, Ruben Ostland paces his movie perfectly, smartly moves from one act to another and surprises you at the exact right moments. Two thumbs up for a very memorable movie that gives you something important to think about.
