Review of Force Majeure (2014) by Nick Z — 16 Feb 2016
It's hard to draw generalities on characters and the story they inhabit when they exhibit extreme behavior, such as that displayed by Tomas. Legitimate conflicts between the sexes require each partner exhibit traits common to all of members of their sex.
Tomas was a wimp, abandoning responsibility where others would not, then crying like a child when confronted with the truth about himself. His wife is likewise extreme, humiliating Tomas at length in front of strangers, behavior appropriate should she wish for a break-up, which is not indicated.
The movie is too limited in the scope and behavior of its characters to say much to affect us.
