Review of For All Mankind (1989) by David K — 13 May 2009
I'm sure everyone at one time has wondered what it would be like to go to the moon. It's something that has fascinated humanity since man looked up. What "For All Mankind" does is offer an opportunity to go on the moon; to be apart of the process of "bending human evolution.".
The film is simply a retelling, by the astronauts themselves, of the first manned mission to the moon. However, through the wonderful images and haunting music, "For All Mankind," as its title describes, is about much more.
The documentary is a chance to look at ourselves as a species from a different persepective. It's a chance to analyze what landing on the moon really means. It's a chance to look deeper into the psyche of humanity by hearing first hand accounts of space exploration; by watching first hand accounts of space exploration. It's a beautiful film, one that penetrates the mind and emotional core of the viewer. "For All Mankind" will make you proud to be human. It will inspire you to go out and explore the world; explore the moon; explore the cosmos; etc. and allow you the opportunity to, hopefully, discover what "humanity" really means.
