I can see how some put this film at the bottom. It's longer, less focused, and overall just a little sloppier than the first. But from the stylish main titles (that get shot at by an in film character) to the closing showdown with Eastwood and Van Cleef dividing up the bounties on the gang of thugs they just wiped out, I can't find much to complain about. Any loss of focus is more than made up for by the addition of Lee Van Cleef as a bad-ass rival bounty hunter.

The scenario this time finds the two teaming up to take down a gang of 15 or so bank robbers and splitting both the reward and the risk. "One on the inside, one on the outside," Van Cleef sums up concisely and clearly. But the film takes this scenario and much like the previous film did, twists it and explores it's possibilities. And various times throughout the film, one, both, and neither are on the inside, each with it's own tensions and rewards.
