The sequel to A Fistful of Dollars ratchets the pace. Two bounty killers, Monco (Eastwood) and Colonel Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef in a cool, steely role) teaming up to get El Indio and his bandits, who plan to rob the bank in El Paso.

The Eastwood-Van Cleef teaming is solid here, with the strategically-thinking Van Cleef and tactical Eastwood. Other returnees include Gian Maria Volonte, who plays another brutal and ruthless heavy, El Indio, cut from the same cloth as Ramon Rojo from A Fistful of Dollars. Josef Egger, who was the coffin maker Piripero, has a brief appearance as the Prophet in his last film. But Ennio Morricone's winning score adds colour to the desolate New Mexico landscape.

The Hat Duel between Eastwood and Van Cleef and the scene where Van Cleef lights a match on hunchback Klaus Kinski's back are memorable.
