Review of Footloose (1984) by Marcus W — 08 Apr 2009
(in deep voice) He was a kid from the city who loved to dance, until he finds himself in a small town where dancing is illegal. He does the only thing he can. Okay, so I suck at trailer voiceovers. Anyway, this film is brilliant.
It captures the energy of teens perfectly and you really feel their frustration as they're banned from dancing, drinking, and pretty much everything else. It has a few moments where it takes itself too seriously but it also writes excellent adults, so you see things from their side as well.
The montage where Bacon teaches (a very young) Chris Penn to dance is fantastic. There aren't many films that make me want to jump up and down on the bed.
