Every picture tells a story, don't it? As it turns out, a historic picture that can possibly inspire millions of Americans back home, needed to be "spun" to inspire. Sure, the image itself is an unintentional dramatic display of bravery and accomplishment but Eastwood shows us that the U.
S. government wanted this image to communicate more than that. This film also deals with the effects of combat PTSD and how these soldiers dealt with all the celebrity thrust upon them. A timely film dealing with relevant subject matter.
While the book is better, Eastwood's straightforward, traditional style serves the story well.
