Review of Flags of Our Fathers (2006) by Virgonoshaka — 30 Apr 2017
I'm not from the united states, so my knowledge of the battle of Iwo Jima before this movie was just bare basics, this movie like many of the movies of Mr Eastwood works in an emotional level, making you with the cinematography, the music, the lines, the ambience, the sound effects, the colors, etc, feel the movie.
The plot moves and with it your feeling the path the movie takes, from hope, horror, disgust, etc. In that level this movie is amazing and it leaves me with wanting to know more about the people who fought in this battle.
On other levels, with the pace the movie goes, and with the way the story is structured, while I undestrand what I'm supposed to be feeling, the part that doesn't work in its favor is the characters, Even if they are based on real people, the way the movie moves from one point to another doesn't allow me to really know or understand the characters.
All in all, as a historical movie about a terrible battle, this movie works marvels, but as a full plot, it leaves a little to be desired. Recommended in general to learn a little more about the price of war and the whims of heroism.
