Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Justin M — 31 Dec 2008
I think my favorite part of this movie is the trivia surrounding it; rather than use special effects-- which he figures must be for girls or something-- to simulate transporting the steamship over a mountain, Herzog actually films his crew transporting a steamship over a mountain.
That, my friends, is simply madness put on screen. Other than the absolute insanity involved in making the movie, it is a good work of art itself. Sometimes the pace is excruciating, which makes some parts to be endured rather than enjoyed, but all in all it's worth seeing.
