Review of Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Chris W — 10 Aug 2012

Wow! What an amazing movie. This is my new favorite Herzog film and the latest addition into my top 10. The visuals were beautiful, filmed in a way that few have the eye for. The only films that rival this from the visual aspect are The New World and Days of Heavn. Malick and Herzog have to be the best outdoor directors of all time. If anyone has other suggestions for directors who film the outdoors the way these two do, let me know!

Kinsi is amazing in this film, even better than he is in Aguirre. From everything I hear about Kinsi the man, and how grumpy he was in real life, it makes his performance here all the more impressive as he is very likeable and very relatable. Also, I really liked how this film was almost about nothing, yet about something that every human has inside of them - the want to do the seemingly impossible. I loved this movie.
