Review of First They Killed My Father (2017) by Nadjib R — 14 Jan 2018
Yet again Angelina Jolie managed to tell another untold story, and she did that brilliantly, " First They Killed My Father " is an extremely powerful story which serves as a reminder of the horrible doings of the Angkars, from start to finish we're faced by a heartwrenching sequence of events that can only be described as moving and incredibly revealing of what occurred in Cambodia in the 70s.
Jolie offered us a unique look through the eyes of Loung Ung, a brave child who endured the impossible during her childhood, Jolie avoids historical exaggeration and sticks to the topic in hand, the result is a heartfelt story that goes a long way emotionally, Srey Moch the girl who played Loung Ung is a true revelation, her acting is pure and effortless and at times I forgot it was acting, The camera work is great as well, the use of the overhead shots really highlighted the destruction.
All in all, " First They Killed My Father " is a beautifully put together film and I urge everyone to watch it to have a better understanding of the story.
