Review of First Man (2018) by Jake L — 27 Oct 2018
Sitting on a controlled explosion.
Let me begin by saying I am a SpaceX addict (go Blue Origin) and my wife has a Neil Armstrong autograph. First Man is a drama not a hardware festival. Having said that I feel a little self indulgent when I say the main reason I went to see this movie was to watch Claire Foy.
I remember two lines from First Man which I will put into my own words. First: You are all a bunch of boys playing with balsa wood models. And the second: Is there anything you want to take with you to the moon? Answer: More fuel. To comment on the first accusation, who else will sit on top of a controlled explosion? To follow up on the second exchange: More fuel will land you safely on the moon, but more fuel can also get you to Mars. Rocketry is a dangerous business, as accurately demonstrated in First Man (yes in a drama).
Next up The Girl in the Spider's Web. Tick tock.
