Review of First Blood (1982) by Sam E — 10 Aug 2011
By 1982 Stallone was dying for another big role, despite the success of Rocky and its sequals Rocky II and Rocky III, Stallone was still struggeling as an actor, and was failing to make an impact at the box office in any other film apart from the Rocky franchise.
Despite starring in great movies such as F.I.S.T, Paradise Alley, Nighthawks and Escape to Victory keeping in mind all of which received high critical praise, none of which made any sort of impact at the box office.
Then came First Blood and combined with the success that Rocky III received in the same year of 1982 Stallone was catapulted into worldwide fame and would become one of the biggest box office draws in the world during the rest of the 1980's and 1990's.
Now to the film, Sylvester Stallone and co-stars Brian Dennehy and Richard Crenna all display fantastic acting. Stallone plays a troubled Vietnam war veteran who fights for justice, Crenna plays Rambo's old commanding officer who is asked to help subdue Stallone's character and Dennehy plays the police officer attempting to take Rambo down.
A great script, great acting, great cast, a great movie. Go see it if you can.
