Review of Finding Forrester (2000) by Existen Z — 03 Aug 2008
Sometimes it felt ok and sometimes it felt like nails on a chalkboard. I wanted to like the film because some of the subject seemed like it should be endearing, but there were too many other problems. The cinematography and directing often made me wonder why certain choices were being made.
The plot was very predictable. The acting really seemed hit and miss. I think this might be the worst performance I've seen from Sean Connery. The characters, besides having no development often seemed to both scrape against each other and themselves as if they were unsure what they were doing both internally and with each other.
The aesthetic of the pens and typewriters and the words used for the literature was teh only thing that tried to pull me into the movie, but it seemed to far for my imagination to stretch that we're watching supposedly one of the greatest writers of all time and yet he hasn't been developed nor do we have any sense of why he should be considered great.
In the end the sentamentality produced looks and smells more like off brand sausage than a well cared for filet mignon.
