Review of Finding Forrester (2000) by Paul K — 22 May 2013
Sean Connery as curmudgeonly hermit in NYC? Yes, it works. The movie is another in the 'inner city deprived kid redemption' genre, but it has a certain acid edge that makes it stand out. The perspective is firmly critical of class divisions, and it's unfortunate that the central character needs to be exceptional for the plot to work.
We really enjoyed this one, despite a few wobbly plot developments, such as SC's ability to ride a bicycle through downtown despite his inability to open his own front door. Lovely dialogue and good acting, and a story with heart.
Thanks to Jenny our neighbour for the recommendation.
