Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) by Alexandra B — 16 Oct 2010
I'm a huge, HUGE Final Fantasy fan, and I've been one since the age of four when I payed the first one with the guide of my big brother. It's a series that's very dear to my heart and always will be. Focusing on great storyline and character growth, each new entry always brings a breath of fresh air and amazing new worlds to discover. No doubt why it's one of the most famous video game and best-seller out there.
When I first saw the pics of the FF7 a long time ago, I was beyond excited. My favorite video game it's getting a sequel! And then I kept reading and found out it was just a movie... seriously? My hopes died right there. They didn't learn from Spirits Within? A big flop and almost caused the company Squaresoft(Square enix now) to go bankrupt. First off, why would you spend more than a $100 million dollars on a 2 hour movie when you could make another game with countless of hours of content with much less money. That to me it's fail. And we get 2 hours of nothing; no emotions, no character attachment, no originality.
I felt it was basically the same plot of the original game, but done in a mediocre way. We are presented with robotic people that glide through the air randomly and in weird speed paces. There are some moments that make no sense. Like a character it's hiding something the other one is looking for right in front of his face, and then comes back to him to show him that he has it?... and throws it of the building, which both characters throw themselves to to recuperate... call me crazy but that's just plain stupid.
I'm just really disappointment at how they keep milking the franchise with the compilation that's been really crappy, including Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. A lot of fans love the movie for some reason, too loyal to see it's faults. Me, I see this as the lowest point of any FF and hope they don't make the same mistake again. Gets a 20% just for the pretty CGI.
