Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005) by Shaun L — 18 Apr 2011
Probably overrated by die-hard Final Fantasy fans, although ironically it's often those who haven't even played the game who go and cosplay the characters. Back to the point, though, this is an amazingly animated film. It's hard to believe this came out in 2005, as it still looks mind-blowingly good today.
Unfortunately, Advent Children is a little lacking in the narrative department. I would not recommend Advent Children to non-fans of FFVII, which is probably why it's got such a low score on here. It's a film FOR fans of Final Fantasy VII, and if you enjoyed the game you'll probably enjoy this.
It's probably one of the best video game film adaptations there is. Well, that's not saying a lot! The narrative's weak, and you'll only "get it" if you've played FFVII, but the stunning animation, brilliant soundtrack and excellent fight scenes make it worthwhile.
