Review of Filth (2013) by David P — 30 Nov 2013
When I saw a screenshot of James McAvoy giving a little kid the finger, I knew I had to see this movie. I was getting some Bad Santa vibes from it. And although McAvoy's Bruce Robertson is a dirty pig of a man, it didn't quite hit the levels that I wanted. I was expecting more. The biggest problem with this movie is it is unsure what kind of film it wants to be. Mainly a comedy, but it dances around, getting all serious at times' when usually that wouldn't be a bad thing, but it just seems out of place the way that they do it. McAvoy's performance is all over the place, with barely any transition between emotions for the character. There are some fun scenes, but this movie was too choppy for me to be able to fall into the story. You could wait for DVD to see this one and you wouldn't be missing much.
2/5.
