Review of Filth (2013) by Ted W — 31 Jul 2016
A movie that does justice to its title. 'Filth' shows us the mind of a man spiraling out of control into paranoia. The entire production revolves around James McAvoys character and for good reason. The range of his performance is top class and although the ending is a bit weak and feels a bit forced, the perspective of the central character is consistently shifting in the most abrupt ways throughout the length of the film. The direction and the cinematography is not 'clean' by any means but whether or not it was a planned move, it creates an extra level of depth to Bruce.
For most part of the film, it follows a sense of dark humour but in a more extreme fashion that I call it 'messed up humour'.
If you think you're ready to take this trip with James McAvoy, it's a good watch.
If anything the soundtrack could have packed a bit more of a punch.
