Review of Filth (2013) by Matt M — 18 Dec 2017
McAvoy shines in this difficult adaptation of the Welsh novel. I'm not going to criticise his acting for he is progressing well but the adaptation he was working with was a pale impression of the book - which was much more hard hitting and missing a key visual theme (which I'll not mention for those who haven't read it).
A few familiar faces - Jamie Bell and Joanne Froggatt, on a break from Downton, play other key characters but this is very much a McAvoy vehicle, who is either on screen or narrating virtually constantly.
Disappointing.
