Review of Filth (2013) by Patrick M — 22 Dec 2013
...ummm ~ wasn't sure what to expect from this, although I think I was expecting something of Trainspotting ilk ~ and so it transpired ~ James McAvoy plays Bruce Robertson, a twisted copper with a mission, to destroy the reputation of many of his colleagues in order to win the promotion currently on offer ~ he would stop at nothing ~ it is abit confusing at times, although his debilitating drug habit is responsible for this, and it is obvious that all is not at ease within his marriage ~ is his wife still with him, or not? ~ it is a dark film, and seemed to get darker as it moved along (at a slightly exhausting pace) ~ just to what depths will he go.
.. ~ his colleague Ray (Jamie Bell) appears to be dragged along on some of his dark antics, and the arrival of a new potential lady offers a brief moment of hope for him ~ all in all, it seemed to be a dark comedy mixed in with a drama and general caper ~ just didn't quite hit the mark for me.
