Review of Fifty Shades Darker (2017) by Sonya H — 12 Feb 2017
Like the book trilogy, I was and am determined to see the movie trilogy through as well which why, despite the grim ratings, I went to see 50 Shades darker. Maybe because I was preparing for the worst, maybe because I had the book to fill in gaps, I didn't hate the movie.
I feel they definitely improved on the sex scenes (even though it all still feels pretty vanilla and the chemistry is less hot than an episode of "Technology Hump" on SNL). The beginning is painful, disjointed and slow.
But the movie does more footing as it tumbles on. I feel all the pieces were there to have a decent movie if minus a very well defined story mjneMy problem is the same as it was in the first: Besides his body, this guy does not bring the steam, the intensity or command the screen or the moment as you believe Christian Grey would.
You have timid Anastasia as expected and demure Christian. If this is not addressed, the third installment might as well go straight to Netflix.
