Review of Fifty Shades Darker (2017) by A.s. B — 25 Feb 2017
If I could give this zero stars, I would. I think that the critic who said that Fifty Shades Darker serves as its own form of punishment was right on. The only positive I can give this is that Dakota Johnson's looks improved markedly from the first film- clearly she had some "work" done or else her makeup artist did a better job.
Although Jamie Dornan never did anything for me, whatever appeal he may have had in Fifty Shades fizzled in Darker. His persona and acting had the charisma and appeal of an ironing board. Trying to get beyond the lack of appeal that Dornan has overall, his attempts to look or act sexy fell flat.
The overall plot was choppy, and the acting was third rate- I've seen better in high school plays. The story line veered so much from the book that it was laughable. My biggest regrets in seeing this movie were 1) $ wasted, 2) now whenever I re-read the books I see the faces of Johnson and Dornan instead of the originally imagined characters.
If you have not already seen this, don't waste your time. It was a FLOP, which is very disappointing as I was a huge fan of the books.
