Review of Fierce People (2006) by Colleen C — 16 Jan 2009
While the movie deals with a somewhat interesting premise, the theme is made so obvious that you'd think Dunne was trying to beat you over the head with elementary social commentary. Donald Sutherland is always a treat, but his performance is not enough to keep the movie afloat.
The movie attempts to be a serious drama (unlike the comedy that it is advertised as) about...well, rich people. The real killer though is Anton Yelchin, who plays the youthful protag with a smugness that is so assured that it ultimately becomes more annoying than sympathetic.
And while the movie attempts to be emotional and deep, none of the truisms that it aspires to fulfill can be taken seriously. On top of that the movie comes off as predictable and shallow. Sad. The preview made it look so good too :(.
