Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Aryo G — 01 Sep 2011
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of those films which seem to have no middle ground whatsoever. People either consider it a cult classic which deserves more credit than it deserves or consider it overrated.
I think just the directing alone gives it much credibility. Johnny Depp was amazing as Raoul Duke as was Benicio Del Toro as Dr. Gonzo. However, you must see this film only if you have read the book it was adapted from.
Once you read the book, then you would understand the message Hunter S. Thompson was trying to convey. Extremely funny film with wonderful acting but nowhere near as great as you might believe. The book is still much better.
