Review of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) by Tom K — 22 Jul 2012
In Terry Gilliam's adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's book, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a Pleasently Visual Cinematic High. As Rauol Duke opens the movie with his sidekick Gonzo saying one of the most famous lines of all time "We Cant Stop Here! This is Bat Country!" They go to vegas, duke writes in his journal and They both get high with drugs while drinking booze. The movie's style of drugs is one thing, but the way drugs as a high are protrayed in the film is outstanding. It is one of the most brilliant things ever put on film. Depp's character is incredible. He has the right voice and characteristics as Thompson does. There are many moments that can be visually disturbing to many viewers which is the cool thing about this movie. Because this movie looks at how being high effects you. Its a brilliant film and one of my favorites.
98/100 A.
