Review of Fata Morgana (1972) by Tibor B — 12 Aug 2008
Almost overwhelmingly strange piece of film from Herzog - a description doesn't do it justice, but it's basically shots of the Sahara, the landscape, humans, human pollution, the strangest musical duo this side of a Lynch or Kaurismaki film, some weird sc-fi / Mad Max-style characters accompanied by first a Mayan creation myth spoken by German film historian Lotte Eisner scored with opera.
Then we have some 60s folk from Blind Faith and Leonard Cohen along with some very random voice-over about concepts of paradise. Just very, very, very weird! I give it 5 for pure weirdness.
