Review of Fat Girl (2001) by Matt W — 13 Sep 2007
There are some well shot sequences and some subtle moments that really cut to the core of the emotional turmoil of these two girls. The two scenes in the bedroom are brilliant in conveying all the emotions from multiple indivuals that surround the "first time.
" Aside from these two scnes however, the film is misguided and often very obvious. The film would have been better served if it wouldn't have forgotten about the beauties of subtlety. There is a scene when the "fat girl" is talking to the diving board in the pool and another on the beach in which she spouts off a song that reveals her inner heartache.
These are just two examples forced sympathy and dime store philiosophy. The film tries to explore certain facets of adolescent life that never are given any depth. The film is far to concerned with shocking than forming any kind of stroy.
Males in the film are of course overworked assholes or heartless pricks who think with only thier dick. Oh, and there is of course the ending. Ah, the ending. I actually kind of chuckled. I didn't know you're supposed to do that when a family gets brutally murdered and raped.
