Totally stellar performance by stacy keach as a washed up boxer who's desperately grasping at the fading dream only to watch it fall from his hands like fistfuls of sand. rest of the cast was fantastic as well including nick colasanto as the trainer who tries to help keach's billy tully character back on the road to the ring only to watch him sabotage himself and undermine the good colasanto's character tries to do.

a young jeff bridges provides the contrast to keach, a young raw talent who is up and coming with his best days in front of him. I can't tell who keach hates more, bridges (ernie) for being young and full of promise or himself for growing old with his pinnacle in his rearview mirror.

susan tyrrell is scarily on-target as the bar fly object of keach's affections. loved this movie.
