Review of Faster (2010) by Beth M — 29 Aug 2013
I don't remember why I put this in my Netflix queue, but it's actually one I didn't regret. It's morally ambiguous, but I still enjoyed it. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (Fast & Furious 6) was so much better when he was more than just a meathead like he's turned into.
The supporting cast is quite apt, with Billy Bob Thorton (Puss in Boots), Carla Gugino (Sucker Punch), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Raven), Maggie Grace (Taken 2), and Moon Bloodgood (The Sessions) filling in the gaps.
It's very straightforward, which is probably the main reason I enjoyed it. Sure there's a twist or two here and there and a nice redemption message, but it's a pretty cut-and-dry revenge flick.
It's one of those movies that could have easily gone wrong many times and walks a very fine line between good and bad, but it's more the former than the latter.
