Review of Farewell My Concubine (1993) by Susan G — 02 Jul 2007
Epic historical drama tells the story of 20th century China through the lives of two Chinese opera stars. A heartbreaking story of love - gay and straight - of friendship (true and betrayed), and dedication to one's art.
Beyond the individual tragedies, the film portrays the epic tragedies of 20th century China, particularly the Japanese invasion and the Cultural Revolution. Unforgettable, with superb acting, costumes, and set design.
A perfect film.
